because most people are noobs.
flatbow is only good if you are also using read the wind prep or favorable winds nature ritual. one of those must be glued to your skill bar if you are using a flatbow. those skills overcome the flatbow's inherent long flight time. doing this, the flatbow does indeed become the best with its long range and fast refire rate. but you *have* to use one of the skills above.
with that said, a lot of noobs will also drop favorable winds when the other team also has rangers! keep in mind that fw will also help their rangers!

You underestimate the power of the flatbow.
-Longest firing distance
-Fastest possible refire rate
-Longest flight time
To fix the flight time, all you need is one of two skills,
-Read the Wind
-Favorable Winds
If you have one of those, that flatbow is the best utility bow in the game.
What is a good what in PVP?

i think he was asking which of the skills ( RtW and Fav. Winds ) is good in PvP... and the answer to that would be both are... but i prefer RtW cause' then i don't have to worry about someone destroying my Fav. Winds

I think of Read the Wind as a portable Favorable Winds
On a side note,
The Favorable Winds + Read the Wind combo now works together instead of applying each in a different order. No more glitch for me.

which is the greatest blessing ever to come to rangers ever.
i'd still not suggest bringing FW because A) it can be killed within seconds and you'd have no faster arrow speed/damage bonus and B) it also gives enemy rangers a hand.
RTW on the other hand is only a problem if it gets interrupted, or it runs out while you're kiting...if anyone decides to kill the ranger first anyway.

I don't like the flatbow for PvP even with RTW...just for that reason...its conditionaly the best utility bow in the game. Without RTW you're advantage is lost with the flat bow.

For pvp, I normally use a flatbow when my targets are far away, and I use a shortbow when they are close. Works for me

Favorable Winds: Its a spirit, therfore if anyone takes it down you're crippled for a little while. The damage is +6 regardless of attribute level.
Read The Wind: Has to be constantly reapplied, but has more damage and no possibility of removal. The damage is dependant on the marksmanship attribute.
Read The Wind is better if you are not using Barrage (since that removes all preperations). Additionally, if your Marksmanship is below 8, you may want to bring Winds.

Wried thing as I was trying out between the Flat bow, storm bow, composite bow, and a short bow.
I find that the composite is not as long in ranger as the storm bow, but, the fire rate is almost the same as the short bow, but have much better range.
So composite bow seems to be the better deal?
